Nanosolar has developed a powerful new way of interconnecting individual solar cells into larger modules and large-area sheets.

Earlier industry solutions turned out to be not robustly scalable to the kinds of throughput and performance levels that Nanosolar is targeting. These techniques did not allow high-throughput module assembly at high yield. Furthermore, conventional module architectures and interconnect schemes resulted in degraded performance for modules as more and more cells are connected to cover larger-area surfaces.

Nanosolar's patent-pending new process uniquely leverages the fact that its cells are based on a certain flexible substrate technology; it is robustly scalable to high throughput production; and it features outstanding performance scalability for large-area modules.
