Nanosolar’s solar cell technology platform is characterized by a CIGS semiconductor printed on low-cost, conductive aluminum foil combined with a Metal-Wrap-Through back contact. Our solar cells are lightweight and easily interconnected.
Nanosolar’s new proprietary, third-generation CIGS technology platform, Print2Power™, enables our technology roadmap to increase power conversion efficiencies to 16 percent and beyond eventually matching if not potentially surpassing current c-Si efficiency rates, while reducing total costs and enabling new applications.
Print2Power™ introduces new proprietary “ink” and an improved CIGS crystal growth process which inherently increases the efficiency of Nanosolar solar cells. Print2Power™ enables our manufacturing process to further advance our roll-to-roll processing and additionally minimizes the use of expensive vacuum based equipment, resulting in additional reductions of variable and CapEx costs.
Print2Power™ delivers further optimization of our manufacturing flow to reduce the Costs of Goods Sold (COGS) of our PV cells at new performance points – for example, energy yields and temperature coefficients–that will enable new competitively priced products for innovative applications and market opportunities.
We produce lightweight solar cells independently from solar panels. This allows us to locate panel assembly factories near the demand for solar energy in local markets, shortening our supply chain, leveraging local resources, and reducing delivery times to customer project sites.
Nanosolar has over 300 patents issued, licensed, or pending regarding critical aspects of our printing technology.
